Child Development Centre in Vijay Nagar, Delhi: Understanding Every Child's Needs

When a child's development needs a closer look

Why is my child not speaking as expected? Why does my child struggle to concentrate, interact with others or keep up at school? Could it be autism, ADHD or simply a different pace of development?

These are questions increasingly asked by parents today.

Greater awareness of childhood developmental differences, improved screening and evolving diagnostic practices have helped identify children who might previously have gone unnoticed. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), speech and language delays, learning difficulties and behavioural concerns are now receiving greater attention from families, teachers and healthcare professionals.

At Paartha Diagnostic Centre, Vijay Nagar, our longstanding experience in paediatrics has highlighted the importance of looking beyond a child's physical health to understand their communication, learning, behaviour and overall development.

This understanding inspired us to bring multiple child development services together under one roof.

Autism and ADHD: Understanding the Difference

Although autism and ADHD can sometimes occur together, they are distinct neurodevelopmental conditions.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) primarily affects social communication and interaction. Children may communicate differently, find social situations challenging, show repetitive behaviours or have particular sensory sensitivities and strongly focused interests. Their abilities and support needs vary considerably.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) primarily affects attention regulation, impulse control and/or activity levels. Children may struggle to concentrate, organise tasks, wait their turn or remain seated when expected. These difficulties can affect learning, relationships and everyday functioning.

Some children have both conditions, while others may have neither but still require help with speech, learning, behaviour or developmental delays.

A professional assessment helps identify a child's individual needs. Recognising these differences early can guide appropriate support at home, in school and through specialist interventions.

Why Are More Children Being Diagnosed with Developmental Disorders Now a Days?

The increasing recognition of autism and ADHD has several possible explanations.

Greater awareness and improved diagnosis: Parents, teachers and doctors increasingly recognise developmental differences. Better screening and changes in diagnostic practices have helped identify children who might previously have been overlooked.

Changing childhood experiences: Excessive screen time, reduced face-to-face interaction, limited opportunities for active play and disrupted sleep can affect language development, attention and behaviour. However, screen exposure is not an established cause of autism or ADHD.

The impact of COVID-19: Lockdowns disrupted schooling, peer interaction, routines and access to developmental services. These disruptions may have affected some children's social experiences and delayed the identification of developmental difficulties. COVID-19 has not been established as a cause of autism.

Family life and emotional well-being: Busy schedules, academic pressure and stress may influence children's behaviour, sleep and emotional health. Nuclear families themselves do not cause autism or ADHD, but every child benefits from responsive communication, play, social interaction and supportive relationships.

Genetic and biological influences play important roles in neurodevelopmental conditions. Research into other contributing factors continues, and the increased number of diagnoses does not necessarily mean that the underlying occurrence of these conditions has risen by the same amount.

Autism and Vaccination: What Should Parents Know?

Extensive scientific research has found no causal link between vaccines and autism, including the MMR vaccine.

Autism-related characteristics may become noticeable during the same early-childhood years when routine vaccinations are given. This timing can raise understandable questions, but events occurring around the same time do not necessarily cause one another.

Vaccination protects children against serious preventable diseases. Parents concerned about their child's development should seek a professional assessment rather than delay immunisation.

Why Early Developmental Assessment Matters

Children develop at different rates, but persistent difficulties with communication, social interaction, attention, behaviour or learning deserve attention.

Parents should consider seeking professional advice if their child has:

- Delayed speech or difficulty understanding language.

- Limited social interaction or difficulty engaging in age-appropriate play.

- Persistent inattention, impulsivity or hyperactivity.

- Difficulties with learning, motor coordination or everyday activities.

- Loss of previously acquired developmental skills.

These signs do not automatically indicate autism or ADHD. They suggest that an assessment may help clarify the child's needs. Loss of previously acquired skills warrants prompt medical evaluation.

Early assessment is not about labelling a child. It is about understanding the child and providing appropriate support at the right time.

Why We Created a Holistic Child Development Centre at Paartha

A child's developmental needs rarely fit into a single speciality.

A child with speech delay may also have difficulties with social communication, attention or sensory processing. A child struggling at school may need help understanding their learning profile, emotional needs and developmental abilities.

When families have to visit different professionals at different locations, coordinating assessments and interventions can become difficult.

Drawing on our experience in paediatrics and healthcare, we recognised the need for a more connected approach. This led to the development of the Child Development Centre at Paartha Diagnostic Centre, Vijay Nagar, bringing complementary professional expertise together in one setting.

Our approach focuses on understanding the whole child, identifying individual strengths and difficulties, and helping families access appropriate support.

Multiple Specialities. One Coordinated Approach.

Our centre brings together the following disciplines:

- Paediatric consultation: Medical assessment, developmental history and guidance on further evaluation or referral when needed.

- Developmental assessment: Understanding developmental milestones, communication, motor abilities, learning and everyday functioning.

- Speech and language therapy: Supporting communication, language comprehension, speech development and functional communication.

- Occupational therapy: Helping children develop fine motor skills, self-care, functional independence and participation in daily activities.

- Special education: Addressing individual learning needs and helping children develop academic and functional skills.

- Psychological assessment and support: Evaluating relevant cognitive, behavioural, learning and emotional concerns, with appropriate support for children and families.

Not every child needs every service. Recommendations depend on the child's assessment, individual needs and progress.

What Makes an Integrated Child Development Centre Different?

The benefit is not simply having several services at the same address. It is the opportunity to consider different aspects of a child's development together.

A coordinated approach can help families understand their child's difficulties more clearly, align intervention goals, monitor progress and receive practical guidance for home and school.

It also reduces the burden of navigating multiple locations and trying to coordinate different opinions independently.

Helping Every Child Reach Their Potential

A diagnosis does not define a child's abilities or future. Every child has individual strengths, interests and ways of learning.

With timely assessment, appropriate intervention, family involvement and coordinated professional support, children can develop skills that help them communicate, learn, participate in everyday activities and become more independent.

At Paartha, we believe that understanding a child is the first step towards helping them thrive.

Because every child deserves to be understood, and every family deserves the right guidance.
